"Everybody still looks to Sen. Thune—he remains kind of the champion on the side of Senate Finance," said John Gallagher, vice president of government relations for VGM. "His staff is waiting on the Congressional Budget Office to come up with a score, which we think will be nil to none." In making their asks, stakeholders point to recent successes. A bill in the House of Representatives that would temporarily stop Medicare from applying competitive bidding pricing to accessories for com- plex rehab manual wheelchairs passed the Ways and Means Committee with a voice vote on June 26; and a pair of sign-on let- ters in the House and Senate asking HHS and CMS to drop non-invasive vents from Round 2021 garnered 180 and 38 signa- tures, respectively. "It's nice with all these different issues and different champions, we're all coordinating efforts on the overall goal, which is to fix the program," said Witter. Meanwhile, stakeholders have their fingers crossed that providers have done their home- work on bidding and are taking advantage of bid calculators, webinars and in-person seminars. "People appear to be using the material and we are continuing the push," said Cara Bachenheimer, head of the Government Affairs Practice at Brown & Fortunato. "The numbers speak very well; so far, so good." HME monitored and self-monitored by using ResMed's patient engagement app, myAir. The utilization of connected technolo- gies has proven helpful in encouraging patients to stick to their life-saving ther- apies, making the treatment process as seamless as possible and improving out- comes for the patients themselves." FUTURE POTENTIAL Connected care will continue to become more mobile going forward, accommodat- ing the needs of clinicians, caregivers and patients, Winzeler said. "Patients are demanding mobile care options that meet them where they are, and connected care that integrates mobile medical alerts facilitates that," he said. "With fast access to assistance at home and away, and the ability for clinicians and loved ones involved in the patient's care to receive updates about incidents, care is no longer limited to a single location or provider." Technology will also continue to keep pace with the demand for better data deliv- ered in a more timely fashion, Dench said. "One significant benefit of connect- ed care is that the vast amount of data being captured by connected technolo- gies can be de-identified and analyzed in just weeks or months to uncover valuable insights at the population level that can change the way we think about and treat disease," he said.
