"We are always looking for additional av- enues that ease the process for our partners and provide higher quality patient care," said Amanda Baethke, strategic partnerships manager at Aeroflow Healthcare. PHM seeks to finalize restructuring LAFAYETTE, La. – Patient Home Monitoring on Dec. 15 will ask security holders to vote on splitting the company in two. PHM will be- come a DME company specializing in deliv- ering and servicing oxygen therapy, sleep ap- nea treatment and mobility equipment; and Viemed will become a respiratory company specializing in non-invasive vents for patients with COPD, CHF and neuromuscular condi- tions. PHM announced plans to split into two different companies last year. PHM's board of directors has unanimously approved the arrangement and recommends that security holders also vote in favor of it. Shares of PHM will continue to be listed for trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange under PHM, and shares of Viemed will be listed under VMD. Short takes: Integrated HomeCare, VitalCare, Munson Healthcare Rockford, Ill.-based Integrated HomeCare Services has opened a new storefront in Be- loit, Wis., according to the Beloit Daily News. Integrated HomeCare has served custom- ers in Beloit for the last 30 years, but CEO Mark Hatch told the newspaper "it was time" to open a storefront in the city to grow its presence in the Stateline Area…Cheboygan, Mich.-based VitalCare, the home care, hos- pice, private duty, HME and adult day cen- ter affiliate of McLaren Northern Michigan, will take the McLaren name starting Jan. 1, according to the Cheboygan News. The HME business, specifically, will be renamed McLaren Home Medical Equipment...Tra- verse City, Mich.– based Munson Healthcare Home Medical Equipment has a new lo- cation and more space, according to a lo- cal newspaper. The new, 5,252-square-foot space will allow the provider to expand its product offerings, which include scooters, lift chairs, urologicals and compression gar- ment. Driscoll sees opportunities for its network of post-acute care providers to show how they keep patients home and reduce costs. "She reiterated her support for DME, which was real encourag- ing," said h untington, director of finance for h ME h ome Medi- cal in Green Bay, Wis. h untington, who began lob- bying for industry efforts in 2016, spoke with h ME n ews recently about why he blocks off time on his calendar to contact lawmakers. HME N E ws: What made you get involved? Steve Huntington: Because of all the things that have been hap- pening in the industry, I said, we should get involved. Then I got involved with contacting different offices after I returned home and I stuck with it. HME: What have you learned from lobbying? Huntington: It really hit home how much of their day is spent with lobbyists and you realize what you are up against. In a n ovember report, the Office of Inspector General found that CMS did not follow its own processes for the com- petitive bidding program, and, as a result, the agency awarded r ound 2 contracts to 23 suppli- ers it shouldn't have: 13 that did not meet licensure requirements and 10 that did not meet finan- cial requirements. " h ow does this slip through the cracks and, now that it did, what are the penalties?" said r aymond Arthurs, owner of First Care Medical Supplies in Englishtown, n .J. "It makes no mention of them being excluded from the program." Instead, the report merely recommends that CMS follow its established procedures con- sistently; ensure that suppliers have the required licensure; and monitor licensure requirements by implementing a system to identify potential unlicensed suppliers. "It's a slap on the wrist," said Arthurs. It's especially frustrating for providers who followed all of the rules for bidding—licensure, accreditation, surety bonds—as well as all of the other rules and requirements of operating as a Medicare supplier, and have found themselves not only shut out of the program, but also feel- ing like no one cares.
